The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development have welcomed the support of the National Bank of Dominica, to finance their national mathematics contest and national principal awards.
Both events were launched at the Garraway Hotel on April 1st, 2011, where the National Bank of Dominica presented the ministry of education with a cheque valued at thirty three thousand, and twenty dollars ($ 33,020.00).
Chief Education Officer, Mr Stephenson Hyacinth told the gathering that the events were initiated in line with the ministry of education’s vision to provide high quality education to students.
The 2011 Maths power contest will be held among primary and secondary schools on the island.
He adds that the contest will provide the ministry of education with an added opportunity to focus on quality and to recognize excellence.
Minister of Education, Honorable Petter Saint Jean believes that the national principal awards programme will improve the teaching skills of teachers and the supervisory skills of principals, especially as it relates to mathematics.
This he believes will compliment current provisions made by the government, for teachers to pursue first, second and third degrees in mathematics.
The National Principal’s Awards is scheduled for April 13th, 2011.
