National consultation for the development of draft operations and management plan for the WNTP

Implementation activities on the European Union and the government of Dominica funded Waitukubuli National Trail Project (WNTP) are now in high gear, following a two-day consultation in Dominica last week.

Ongoing infrastructural activities include trail works and the building and erection of signage, tables, benches, shelters, segment markets and pedestrian bridges and crossing.

Last week’s consultation opened dialogues with tourism stakeholders and community interest groups, on the possibilities for operating and managing the trail.

Mr Edison Henry is the project manager of the Waitukubuli National Trail Project Management Unit.

The Minister of Tourism, Honorable Ian Douglas says that parallel with the works, softer activities are also ongoing in the areas of marketing, product development and management.

This he believes will further promote Dominica, as a niche tourism market for visitors.

In the meantime, the Project Management Unit sounds a note that the trail is on track for the commissioning in December 2011, and also urges Dominicans to get out and hike the trails.
