National Youth Council continues to round the youth into positive individuals

The National Youth Council (NYC) is remaining committed to its mandate in uplifting the youth by allowing them to engage in positive activities geared at developing them in a holistic manner. SAT TV News caught up with Mr Delroy William, President of the National Youth Council on September 7th2010 who highlighted some of the activities that the NYC is currently engaging in.

“We are working tirelessly with the Youth Development Division to launch the activities for Caribbean Youth Day which will take place on September 30th 2010. We are finalizing the performers for that day because we want to have it not only as a formal ceremony but an activity to highlight the skills and talents of young people.

He said that the NYC will also be assisting the Ministry of Health with Dancercise, one of the flagship activities marking the 2010 Caribbean Wellness Day activities celebrations slated for Friday September 10th at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

“We have a number of young persons targeted to perform at Dancercise including Symplz,  Digital Vibes, Colton T and a number of other performers who will grace the stage from about five pm to about ten pm. We are asking all Dominicans to come out in huge numbers to participate in that activity.

Williams also highlighted another activity which the National Youth Council will be organizing to mark International Peace Day which will be held under the theme ‘Mutual Understanding with Sports’.

“We are organizing a Youth Football Festival, to compliment International Peace Day on October 9th2010 and we are encouraging all Junior Football Academies to come down to the Newtown playing field to participate in that activity. We are hoping to gather the support from the entire Football Academy where we will put on a one day football festival to highlight what peace and mutual understanding is all about. The theme for the football festival is Mutual Understanding for Sports.
