New Housing Project hits Silver Lake
According to Mr. Davis Letang, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands, Housing, Settlements and Water Resource Management, majority of Silver Lake’s adult population, who moved there after the passing of hurricane David in 1979, have faced continuous challenges with sourcing proper shelter.
It is for that reason that the Ministry has taken this initiative to attempt to improve their living conditions.
It was proposed that the partially vacant lands opposite and to the north of Silver Lake, be utilized for the construction of apartment buildings, however that proposal had been subsequently denied by the Physical Planning Division, on the count that it was unsuitable for this type of construction.
New plans were drawn up and in March of 2012, directives were issued to seek planning approval, for construction of the apartments within the Silver Lake community.
The Minister says, there were persons in doubt, as to whether or not it was beneficial or sustainable to undergo this project.
He went on to assure the residents of Silver Lake however, that this programme will materialize under the Dominica Labour Party regime.
The housing complex is valued at E.C $1 million
