Ninth Annual World Rivers Day Celebrated
Dominica celebrated the Ninth Annual World Rivers Day on September 29th, with a church service held at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Massacre.
World Rivers Day increases awareness, promotes stewardship and encourages river conservation around the globe.
With many of the world’s rivers facing severe and increasing threats associated with climate change, pollution and industrial development, close to 70 countries participated in this year’s event.
Some focused on education and public awareness activities, while others included river and stream cleanup, habitat enhancement and restoration projects.
During the church service, celebrant Father Franklin Cuffy reminded the persons present on the importance of our rivers.
World Rivers Day also strives to increase public awareness of the importance of our waterways as well as the many threats confronting them.
