OAS to Provide Drug Court Assistance to Trinidad

On Monday September 10th, Trinidad and Tobago’s minister of national security, Jack Warner, and Ambassador Albert Ramdin, Assistant Secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS) signed a memorandum of understanding for the provision of technical assistance by the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES/CICAD), in the establishment of the drug treatment court model in Trinidad and Tobago.

The MOU is a non-legally binding instrument, that sets out the terms and conditions under which ES/CICAD and the government of Trinidad and Tobago is to engage in developing and supporting the implementation of drug treatment courts.

The launch of the first pilot court for drug dependent offenders in Trinidad and Tobago will take place on Tuesday at the San Fernando City Hall.
