According to Ms. Ramos, Cuban women count for more than 47 percent of the active labour force, 66 percent of the technical and professional labour force, 49 percent of all scientists and 64 percent of all university graduates.

This, she says demonstrates the critical role that women play in the current advancement of Cuba.

The speeches were followed by performances from the Venezuelan Quatro group.
