Official Funeral for Former Speaker of the House of Assembly
The Government of Dominica has afforded former Speaker of the House of Assembly, the late Marie Davis Pierre an Official Funeral on Wednesday, June 4, 2014.
The Government has also declared Wednesday, June 4, 2014 an official day of mourning as a mark of respect for the late Pierre, and as such the Dominican Flag shall be flown at half-staff on all public buildings.
Pierre served as Speaker of the House of Assembly from August 13, 1980 to December 30, 1988 and has the distinction of being the first female Speaker in Dominica.
Pierre also had a long and distinguished career in the Civil Service as it was called then.
His Excellency, the President and Mrs. Savarin, Prime Minister the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit and Mrs. Skerrit, and other members of Cabinet, Honourable Alix Boyd-Knights, Speaker and other members of parliament, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other Government Officials are expected to attend the Official Funeral for the late Marie Davis Pierre.
Public viewing shall be from 2:30pm at the St. Gerard’s Hall Chapel, while the Official Funeral Service will commence at 3:30pm.
The late Marie Davis Pierre will be laid to rest at the Roseau Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Meanwhile in a press release the Dominica Freedom Party has described Pierre as a good, strong and great Dominican woman who distinguished herself as a public servant, entertainer and cultural enthusiast who served her country and fellow men well and faithfully.
