PACIS satisfied with strides made in society for children living with disabilities
President of the Association of Parents Advocating for the Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in society (PACIS), Mr Ainsworth Irish has reported that great strides are being made in society, for persons living with disabilities in Dominica, more so the children.
The group, which was formed just about three years ago have been advocating for more effort to be placed on making life comfortable for persons with special needs.
Mr Irish says since the inception of the association, they have been spearheading a number of awareness campaigns, and so far, is pleased with the response received from their partners and the general public.
The association is now spearheading a major awareness campaign at primary and secondary schools on the island.
Just last week, Ms Alma Darroux facilitated a one-hour session with students of the convent prep at the convent high school auditorium.
He says the general public can also contribute to the awareness campaign, in ensuring that persons living with disabilities are not deprived from any services that normal persons would enjoy.
The other major organizations that have been advocating for persons living with disabilities in Dominica is the Dominica Association of Persons Living with Disabilities (DAPD), the Alpha Center and Abilities Unlimited previously known as the Workshop for the Blind.
