The Paix Bouche Primary School has once again captured the Kweyol Spelling Bee title in the competition’s fifth year.
After a grueling sixteen rounds, three schools dominated the competition, held at the Arawak House of Culture on Wednesday May 14, 2014.
The Campbell Primary School represented by Kelson Mitchell, St. Luke’s Primary School represented by Lujah St. Ville, and Paix Bouche Primary represented by Keiji George all scored 32 points tying for first place.
After a tie breaker the Paix Bouche Primary emerged victorious with the St. Luke’s Primary second and Campbell Primary School third.
Other participating primary schools came from Salibya, Grand Bay, Grand Fond, Massacre, Roseau SDA, Colihaut, Thibaud and Wesley.
Meanwhile, Acting Chief Cultural Officer, Melena Fontaine indicated that the quest to preserve the language has proven to be successful.
It is expected that the Cultural Division will introduce a Kweyol coral speech competition for secondary schools in an effort to further preserve and promote the language.
The Kweyol Spelling Bee Competition was held as part of activities to mark DOMFESTA 2014, organized by the National Cultural Council and the Cultural Division.
