Parliament approves $6.7M supplementary estimates proposed by the Government
The Parliament of Dominica has approved supplementary estimates of expenditure in excess of $6.7 million presented by Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit at the House of Parliament on Wednesday 19th March 2014.
This provision will afford the Government the flexibility of acquiring expenditure not originally approved in the annual budget.
The additional estimates presented were in respect to advances made from the contingency fund for the period dated July 1st to December 31st 2013.
Following influences both in support for and against the supplementary estimates by Cabinet members and the Parliamentary Opposition, the estimates were approved at 10:15 p.m. that same day.
The largest share of these funds; three million two hundred and ninety eight thousand nine hundred and thirty four dollars ($3, 980, 934.00) was appropriated in respect to the Ministry of Public Works.
Of that sum, one million two hundred and eighty two thousand seven hundred and eighty four dollars ($1, 282, 784.00) was provided for road rehabilitation works at Chance, Portsmouth and from Tan Tan to Capuchin.
According to the Prime Minister, the hallmark of his Government has been fiscal responsibility and fiscal prudence; as such these characteristics are attracting in investors to Dominica.
