Parliament proceeds despite the Opposition’s boycott
Prime Minister of Dominica and Minister of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Information Technology, Honorbale Roosevelt Skerrit has insisted that the opposition’s protest was not a valid reason to discontinue the proceedings of parliament.
The Prime Minister, who tabled a schedule of supplementary appropriation for the first quarter of 2010/2011 amounting to $12,570,233.51, described the opposition’s move as ‘base-less’ and ‘unfortunate’.
As outlined by the Prime Minister 31.8 percent of the supplementary appropriation will go towards the public works, energy and ports portfolio while 24.5 percent has been allocated for the Ministry of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs.
Other notable figures include two million dollars funded by Petro Caribe for undertaking projects in various communities, under the Ministry responsible for constituency empowerment and another two million towards the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to provide assistance to farmers.
