Plans for the construction of a five star hotel, to be built in the area of land, now occupied by the Public Works Corporation on Goodwill road, is now at an advanced stage, according to Prime Minister, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit.

Mr. Skerrit says, the designs have been completed and a bid for investments for the creation of the structure has been made.

“Government is working to increase the number of export ready rooms Dominica has to provide,” Mr. Skerrit added.

“I would like to confirm that Government is to address the issue of visitor experience, while positioning the country to host a wide variety of regional and international meetings and conferences.”

He said currently there are 460 export ready rooms, but by year end the number of rooms will increase by 155 rooms to a total of 615.

The completion of the Cabrits Hotel and Spa funded by the Kingdom of Morocco will contribute 68 rooms to the hotel sector, Mr. Skerrit added.

“I am pleased to report, that with the assistance of a Chinese firm, I am now in possession of designs, for a four to five star hotel at this location of the Public Works Corporation.”

All costs and financing for this hotel is currently being sought by the Government.

The Prime Minister also revealed that, there has been new interest in the development of the Woodford Hill Resort.

The technical aid required US$10 million dollars and the Government will update the nation on this progress during its various stages.

“Many new resorts in the Caribbean have embraced the concept of mixed resorts which is key for development.”

Mr. Skerrit added in the short to medium term as new hotel plans become operational, it will result in the creation of approximately 300 jobs, of which 100 will be from the Moroccan funded hotel.
