PM Skerrit Wants Dominicans to Get Health Care

Roosevelt-Skerrit-20070508wPrime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit is urging all Dominicans, to register for health insurance, no matter how small the policy they can afford may be.

health-insuranceHe said employers should also ensure they set up medical insurance for their employees.

“I have seen people gone broke, and I have seen people suffer because they have no money for medical attention,” Mr. Skerrit stated.

A total of one million dollars will be placed in this year’s budget, in an effort to assist Dominicans who need medical attention, but cannot afford it, as there are a number of outstanding requests that need to be addressed.

The Prime Minister identified, that the lack of certain medical equipment is causing the State a lot of money.

The Government, he said, will seek to improve its services at the Princess Margaret Hospital, to offer international medical services.

“One of the things we are going to attempt in the Ministry of Health is to try as much as possible, to reduce the instances where Dominicans have to travel overseas for medical care, “Mr. Skerrit explained.

images (2)Mr. Skerrit said, they will purchase a new mammogram for the Hospital to detect breast cancer at the early stages, so women can take advantage of early screening.
