The Police Organization for Youth Development (POYD) awarded scholarships in the sum of $ 500.00 to five (5) students from various Secondary Schools on the island, at a short presentation held at the Roseau Police Headquarters on Thursday September 09th, 2010. Acting Chief of Police Mr. Hobbes Jno Baptiste said that the scholarship presentation is a true testament of POYD’s commitment to the development of the youth.
While commending the past members of POYD for providing the funds for the scholarships, Mr. Jno Baptiste employed the beneficiaries to put the monies received into good use.
“I am now seeking to revitalize the organization which has been dormant for quite sometime, since I believe that tremendous benefits can be derived from its sustainability”
He said ‘in fact I have already spoken with Officers who were Members of the original group with regards to the development of POYD.’
In the interim, Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Claude Weekes highlighted the significance and usefulness of early intervention programs such as POYD’s.
