Preschoolers join the International fight against hunger
‘Grow what we eat and eat what we grow’.
That’s the message coming from six preschools in the Roseau environs as they joined the rest of the world in the fight against hunger
that was observed by the United Nations today.
The preschoolers marched through the streets of Roseau with placards depicting the importance of healthy eating habits and encouraging the populace to support local.
Before their march, Kerr Serrant from the World Food Day Committee encouraged the children to make use of the many local foods that are available on the island especially fruits.
Ms Serrant also highlighted the importance of healthy eating habits, which she believes contribute to the number of centenarians currently on the island.
As part of the fight against hunger the preschoolers also brought in food items which are used to create food baskets that were donated to needy parents.
The participating preschools were the Social Center Ginga Preschool in Newtown, Social Center Model Preschool, Sacred Heart, Spices Center, Bright Beginnings and the Shalom Preschool.
