His Excellency Charles Savarin, President of Dominica, has written to Archbishop Kelvin Felix, on his appointment by Pope Francis as Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

President Savarin noted, being the first Cardinal to be appointed from within the ranks of the Antilles Episcopal Conference, will surely serve to inspire and motivate the clergy in our region, led by their bishops and archbishops, to work even harder in caring for the flock of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit said the appointment of Archbishop Felix as Cardinal is an inspiration for Dominicans.

He added, as Dominicans, it is also a very important reference point that someone who could come from a very small village in Dominica, has been able, through his own scholarly work, his own dedication to hard work, his commitment to his job and to his faith be promoted within the framework of the Catholic Church.
