Prime Minister dismisses claims of possible snap elections
Prime Minister of Dominica and Leader of the Dominica Labour Party Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit has denounced claims of a possible snap election in the country.
While speaking to party supporters at the Dominica Labour Party Delegates Conference at the Grand Fond Primary School on Sunday February 13th, 2011, Honourable Skerrit assured citizens that he will not call a snap election as has been recently indicated by the opposing United Workers Party.
The Prime Minister also called on party supporters to unite against the forces and voices of negativity and those who demonize the country. He urged them to stand firm for another term while collectively denouncing the unpatriotic acts of the United Workers Party and Honourable Edison James.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative for the Grand Fond Constituency Honourable Ivor Stephenson said that it was indeed a privilege and an honor to host this important national delegate’s conference of the Dominica Labour Party since the landslide victory at the polls in December 2009.
Parliamentary Representative for the Laplaine constituency Honourable Petter Saint Jean was among the many other Ministers who sounded a call to every member and supporter of the Dominica Labour Party to recognize that the Dominica Labour Party is the party of choice, since there is no other political party in the history of Dominica that has been tested and tried with such intensity for so long and still yet has managed to stand with resolve to put the interest of the country first.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit was re-elected unopposed as the leader of the party as well as Education Minister Honourable Petter Saint Jean as the President of the party. The new Vice President of the DLP is Minister of the Health Honourable Julius Timothy. Deputy Leader Honourable Ambrose George is the Public Relations Officer, Dominica’s Ambassador to Venezuela Dr. Philbert Aaron is the treasurer, International Secretary is Honourable Charles Savarin, Trade Officer is Mr. Bernard Nicholas and Youth Officer is Mr. Ericson Robinson, while Mr. Edward Registe will continue as the General Secretary of the DLP and Sonia Williams was as the Education Officer.
Parliamentary Representative for the Paix-Bouche Constituency Honourable Matthew Walter, along with the Minister of Health Honourable Julius Timothy, Minister for Tourism Honourable Ian Douglas and Minister for Community Development Honourable Gloria Shillingford were among the many persons who addressed the conference which was attended by representatives from the Chinese, Venezuelan and Cuban embassies.
