Prime Minister Heads Delegation to Morocco
On July 23rd, the Honourable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and Ambassador Steve Ferrol, Secretary to the Cabinet, left Dominica on an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco.
Dominica established diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Morocco in 2010 and since the relationship has grown rapidly.
The purpose of the visit is to hold talks on the advancement of Dominica- Morocco Relations. While there the Prime Minister is expected to hold talks with His Majesty King Mohammed VI and, for the first time with Honourable Abdelilah Benkirane, Prime Minister and Honourable Saad-Eddine El Othmani, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, both newly appointed to the Government in November 2011.
Dominica has supported Morocco on a number of matters of mutual interest and now has thirty one students undertaking programmes of study in a number of disciplines as part of a Scholarship Programme offered by the Government of Morocco.
Morocco has also made a meaningful contribution to the Agricultural Sector through the grant of high grade fertilizer, which were also made to sister islands of the OECS.
The visit is expected to further strengthen Bilateral Relations between the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Kingdom of Morocco.
Honourable Ambrose George, Minister for Information, Telecommunications and Constituency Empowerment will act as Prime Minister during that period.
