Prime Minister Request Direct Development Assistance from U.S


Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica

At a meeting which was held on May 28th, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica spoke on the Trade and Investment Framework, signed by Dominica, CARICOM and the United States of America.

Honourable Skerrit stated that the signing of the agreement is a precursor to negotiations with the United States Government, on having a trade agreement between the US and CARICOM.

He further went on to say that the framework  will define the negotiations when it has started.

The Prime Minister said, the meeting was  a necessary engagement, where   signing-a-documentCARICOM focused on three broad areas such as Security, trade and economic development” said Mr. Skerrit.

Dominica has been receiving direct benefits from the United States, where National Security is concerned.

However Mr. Skerrit would like the United States to focus more on direct development assistance.

Mr. Skerrit said that in a few weeks the country will be informed of the money required to address the infrastructural challenges on the west coast of Dominica.

He hopes that the United States Government will recognize that Dominica  is in need of a few millions to assist the CARICOM Countries.
