Hon Prime Minister,

It was with profound sadness that I learnt of the passing of Rt. Hon. George Price, first Prime Minister of Belize and revered co-architect of Caribbean integration.

George Price was the celebrated Father of Belizean Independence and is credited as having devoted his entire life in the service and to the development of Belize nationalism and sovereignty.

I had the good fortune of visiting Belmopan and meeting with him in 2000. I was struck by his humility, yet vast knowledge and wisdom, and his clear concept of how the Caribbean

could advance as a single force in an increasingly globalised world.

That is why the name George Price is among those credited as pioneers of 20th century Caribbean integration and development. His efforts served to unite and maintain the chain of islands in what we know today as CARICOM.

His was a life of service to human development in Belize, the Caribbean, Latin America and the world.

His passing is therefore a great loss to the family of nations of the Caribbean. He was a great man!

On behalf of the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I extend heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Government and people of Belize and in

particular to the family of this distinguished Caribbean statesman.

Our prayers and well wishes are with you at this time of national mourning.

Sgd. R. Skerrit
