Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit welcomes the Kalinago craft sales kiosks project
Prime Minister of Dominica and Minister of Finance, Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit has revealed his intentions to work with the Carib Village Council, to further assist small business entrepreneurs in the Carib Territory.
The Prime Minister made this announcement while addressing the official inauguration ceremony, for eight Kalinago craft sales kiosks; a $20,000 project spearheaded by the Church of Nazarene.
A kiosk is a small roofed street booth used for selling items.
Reverend Dan Hopkins, pastor of the church, says that the funds for the project came from a grant by the Canadian Fund for Local Initiative.
Carib Chief Garnette Joseph says that this project addresses one of the many concerns that have been made by the craft vendors, and so, the Carib Council is pleased to endorse this initiative.
Prime Minister Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit who officially declared the stalls opened, also announced that his government will fund three additional stalls, since eleven applications were received, but the grant could only facilitate eight stalls.
Other projects undertaken by the Church of Nazarene in Bataca included the construction of a state-of-the-art health clinic at Saint Cyr, as well as the provisions of food supplies and clothing for hurricane victims, among many other community projects.
