Prime Minister Skeritt Talks on VAT
Value Added Tax will not be removed in Dominica.
These words came from the Honourable Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skeritt at the Commissioning of the new water storage tank at Morne Bruce on August 28th.
With the Government’s continued thrust towards tax reform, they have removed a number of taxes including sales tax, consumption tax and reintroduced the 15% VAT.
To those who call on the Government for the removal of VAT, he asks them to not pursue this cause if they are really interested in the wellbeing of the country.
He is urging the Government to not entertain such requests of any further exemptions or the complete removal of VAT.
The Prime Minister says the Value Added Tax is more equitable because you pay as much as you consume and that is why the Government has reduced on the Income Tax.
The Government will also be making further cuts in the public service to contain discretionary spending.
Those who owe the state should pay these moneys as soon as possible.
