Prime Minister Skerrit describes the death of Dr. Bernard Yankey as a great loss for Dominica
Prime Minister of Dominica, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit has described the death of Dr. Bernard Yankey as a great loss for the country. While expressing sympathy to the family and friends of the late Dr. Yankey, Prime Minister Skerrit said that the country has lost a great citizen, who selflessly devoted time and knowledge towards the development of Dominica and the wider Caribbean.
He said ‘during our Government, he served in various capacities and most recently on the board of the Dominica Social Security, where his contributions were invaluable. We mourn his loss and will continue to pray for his soul, his family, friends and associates.
Dr Yankey passed away on August 3rd, 2010 at the Princess Margaret Hospital, after succumbing to injuries sustained during a car accident on Saturday July 31st, 2010. Dr Yankey, who was the former OECS High Commissioner to Canada, will also be remembered by the education fraternity, having served as the first president of the Dominica State College for many years.
