Mr. Blackmoore noted the completion of the drilling for the production well is a tremendous achievement, realizing it as a vital part of any geothermal plant.

One way to get Dominicans to the ‘Promise Land’, he stated is to create the prosperity that, has evaded us all of our lives and it is only through embarking on a process of change from the traditional method of operation that this is possible.

According to the Minister, the Government will be constructing a 10 to 15 megawatt plant, which will serve as a pilot for a much bigger plant in the future.

The excess energy produced will then be sold to the French countries of Guadeloupe and Martinique.

Dominica is being viewed as one of the countries in the Caribbean that has done the most in diversifying its energy resource, and geothermal energy has been seen as the leading agent in that process.

With the first phase – the drilling of a reinjection well and the second – the completion of a production well, the Government has spent a sum of $54 million dollars, compliments grant funding and a concessionary loan from the Agence Française de Dévelopement – AFD to the tune of Euro $6.5 million.
