‘Professional’ Coaching Secured for Nurses
The Ministry Of Health’s Nursing Service Division, on Monday October 7th launched a two day Coaching & Mentoring Training Workshop, at the Public Service Training Centre.
The chosen participants, said they feel fortunate having been selected for such an important workshop.
Principal Nursing Officer Mrs. Caesarina Ferrol, expressed her delight in this programme finally materializing, after being postponed from April to October.
The aim of the programme, is to provide trained mentors in the nursing service, who will assist in coaching nurses towards professionalism and competence, during their first months of practice and whenever deemed necessary by their supervisors.
It will also work to develop and encourage supportive relationships, to guide nurses in their professional and inter-personal growth, to promote mutuality and share information, based on the needs of colleagues.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Helen Royer, noted this programme will aid in enhancing the nursing service in Dominica.
According to Mrs. Royer, nurses are the main contributors to the delivery of health care in Dominica and the wider region, and the Ministry of Health remains committed to providing quality health care for all who utilize these facilities.
Improvements in customer service and health delivery, remain a major concern for the Ministry of Health, at both the primary and secondary level.
In order for nurses to deliver quality health care, they must demonstrate competence and assertiveness in their daily undertakings.
Mrs. Royer advised the nurses to ensure they effectively use the knowledge acquired through this programme, to uplift their profession to the next level.
