Purple Dragon International awards sponsors of the 2010 World Karate Championship
Purple Dragon International Dominica Branch presented awards to sponsors of the World Karate Championship on Monday July 26th, 2010 at a recognition ceremony held in honor of the students who participated in the tournament. Dominica who fielded a total of 30 competitors, obtained 14-16 gold medals, 6 bronze and 6 silver medals at the tournament, held in Trinidad and Tobago from July 16th – 18th, 2010. Over 21 countries participated in the competition, which saw more than 900 competitors battling for the top position. While giving an overview of the tournament, Instructor Sensei Shannah Robin thanked everyone who helped made the trip a success.
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Honourable Justina Charles commended the students on their outstanding performances. She said that she felt proud after learning that Dominica had emerged victorious in the demonstration segment on the very first night of the Tournament.
Minister of Tourism and Legal Affairs, Honourable Ian Douglas also relayed similar sentiments. Mr. Douglas is elated that so many students were able to participate in the tournament, thereby, creating history as the biggest sporting contingent to have represented Dominica.
The sponsors who were awarded are Honourable Ian Douglas and Justina Charles, as well as Petro Caribe, Griffon Bank ltd and Esther Thomas, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Legal Affairs.
