A Kweyol Service at the Grandbay Roman Catholic Church was one of the listed activities marking this year’s Heritage Day celebrations as hundreds of Dominicans gathered in large numbers in the community in support of the event on Sunday October 24th 2010. Forming part of the celebrations was an arts and craft exhibition which showcased the skills and talents of the residents of Grandbay and the surrounding communities. Honourable Justina Charles, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports mentioned that Heritage Day plays a significant role in Dominica’s Independence as she addressed the gathering at the Cultural Gala in Ma Tutu’s Park.
“This is a time to reflect on who we are as a people and appreciate our culture and heritage,” said the Minister for Culture.
Chief Cultural Officer, Mr Raymond Lawrence said that the Cultural Division in collaboration with the Creole Committee has been celebrating Heritage Day since 1984 and added that it has evolved into an event that is greatly appreciated by Dominicans.
