Returning Dominicans discuss the state of the economy at a half-day consultation

The state of Dominica’s economy was highlighted at a half-day consultation yesterday at the Garraway Hotel, held with returning Dominicans, organized by the Dominica Citizens Forum in conjunction with other social partners.

Member of the Dominica Citizens forum, Mr. Atherton Martin says the consultation was designed to provide a non-partisan forum for discussion on issues of concern to all Dominicans.

One of the key panelists was Dr Thomson Fontaine, who made a presentation on the state of Dominica’s economy.

He says one of the major issues affecting the socio-economic development of the island is the high levels of imports compared to the low levels of exports.

Dr Fontaine also had a few recommendations on the way forward, one of them being, the need to reverse youth employment on the island.

Dominican civic organizations and political parties formed part of the consultation.

Also present was the Minister of Employment, Trade, Industry & Diaspora affairs, Honorable Collin McIntyre.
