Roseau City Council to Order Strong Tents for Cruise Ship Vendors
In an effort to better package the services offered to cruise ship visitors, the Roseau City Council has sought to order more durable tents to replace what the vendors currently use.
This was according to Mayor of Roseau, His Worship Cecil Joseph, who said the tents the vendors use now are displeasing to locals and the tourists whom we want to attract.
“Many years ago, Central Government used to make mention, to ensure the services we gave to tourists, were proper and clean and by virtue of that we would see an increase in the number of ships that would visit the country,” the Mayor explained.
If we continue as is Mr. Joseph said, people will find ways to stop doing business with us-something we do not need.
“I recommended more durable tents so that the bay front would be a place tourists would want to visit; a place where they would want to conduct business.”
Vendors would be housed in their own private stalls and would be able to effectively operate business and not be harassed by vagrants, he said.
The tents would have the capability of being dismantled at the end of each day, to keep the Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard free of congestion.
He said, although the Council would import the tents, the vendors will bear the cost of the tents as they are the ones who would use them to generate revenue.
