Safer Building Course Should Be Criterion For Hiring Contractors
Director of Continuing Studies at the Dominica State College, Mr. Merrill Matthew says that the safer building course offered by the college is a course that all construction workers should participate in.
Mr. Matthew said that it is very important to have knowledge of safer building as we live in an island that is prone to several natural disasters. He said that there may be a landslide, earthquake or hurricane occurring on island at any given time.
Mr. Matthew added that, although he cannot make it a mandatory course for construction workers, he would be pleased if the safer building course becomes a criterion under which builders are contracted by construction companies.
He said that the Dominica State college would appeal to the government to make the standard building course certificate a standard for hiring construction workers.
The safer building course will start this month and run for five weeks, two nights a week from 5:00P.M. To 8:00P.M. nightly.
