Schools Participate in Boat Race as Part of World Environment Day
On Saturday June 15th, a number of schools, assembled at the Mero Beach to celebrate World Environment Day by hosting a boat race.
This idea originated from the Dominica Youth Environment Organization Inc, in collaboration with the Youth Environment Service Corps.
The Pierre Charles Secondary, Dominica State College, St. Martin Secondary, Aganar Programme and the Dominica Grammar School participated in the event.
The students had to build their boats using only recyclable products and were judged on creativity of Designs, Innovative use of Materials and Floatability.
The Pierre Charles Secondary School won the race.
The general purpose of the event was to demonstrate the use of waste as well as to create an awareness of the significance of recycling waste and waste products.
The judges felt that all the schools did fairly well in creativity and floatability.
The St. Martin Secondary School Students were the first to participate in the race.
