Scores of fans pay tribute to Michael Jackson locally
A year after Michael Jackson’s death, his fan base remained committed to keeping his memory alive, as hundreds gathered at The Cove to commemorate the star’s death. Fans of the King of Pop mourned his passing and celebrate his life in grand style, when Carijazz and Mirror Entertainment joined the rest of the world in presenting one of the many Michael Jackson’s Memorial Concert on Friday June 25th, 2010. The memorial concert which was dedicated to the star’s countless fans featured a number of local artists who performed some of Michael’s greatest hits of all time. There were performances by De Irish kid, Kerry who performed ‘I will be there’, Nigel Peters ‘Gone to soon’, Tasha P ‘You are not alone’, Daddy Chess ‘Human nature’, Michael Peters ‘The girl is mine’, Elisha Benoit ‘I want you back’, and Sherian P who wowed the crowd with ‘Thriller’. There were dance presentations by Wackamy and Weedify as well as the host Miguel Labadee. Musical accompaniment was provided by the Fanatic band.
On June 25th, 2009, the American singer died after he suffered cardiac arrest at his Los Angeles mansion. His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, had said that he had found Jackson in his room, not breathing but with a faint pulse, and that he administered CPR but to no avail. Jackson was treated by paramedics at his home, but was pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. While initial reports discussed the possible role of painkillers in Jackson’s death, attention later turned to the medications he reportedly took for insomnia. On august 28th, 2009, the Los Angeles County Coroner declared Jackson’s death as a homicide caused by a combination of drugs in his body.
