Second UN Global Road Safety Week to be held 6TH-12th May 2013
The Second UN Global Road Safety Week held from May 6TH-12th 2013 is in dedication of pedestrian safety.
By request of the UN General Assembly, attention will be focused on the urgent need to better protect pedestrians worldwide, to generate action on the measures needed to do so, and to contribute to achieving the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020.
Governments, with support from civil society, academia, the private sector and the international community, are all encouraged to plan and host national and local events as part of the Second UN Global Road Safety.
Statistics have shown more than 5000 pedestrians are killed globally on the roads each week.
The short term goal is to prevent even a single pedestrian fatality during the period May 6th-12th.
The ultimate goal however is to make a significant and long-lasting contribution, towards making walking safe for the worlds pedestrians.
