Showdown Mas Camp to commence this Friday

 

Four times reigning calypso King Dice and veteran calypsonian Val ‘Young Bull’ Cuffy are among several calypsonians who will be featured at this year’s Showdown Mas Camp.

 

The much anticipated event which is scheduled to begin this Friday and will be held on every other Friday leading up to carnival Monday and Tuesday with the exclusion of March 03rd, was officially launched at the Calypso House in Bath Estate on Tuesday January 11th, 2011.

 

While addressing the official launching ceremony, President of Showdown Mas Camp Pat Aaron says patrons can look forward to a very exciting calypso season as he highlighted the many artists who are scheduled to perform at the camp.

 

Events Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) Mrs Nathalie Clarke Meade commended the organizers of Showdown Mas Camp as she highlighted the unique aspects of Dominica’s Carnival Celebration.

 

Many sponsors also pledged their commitment to the camp. Among them was Country Manager of Lime Dominica Jeffrey Baptiste who said that Lime is pleased to sponsor this year’s event in the sum of $52,000.00

 

He was followed by the General Manager of Dominica Brewery and Beverages Limited Mr Lynford Guthrie who said that he expects Showdown Mas Camp to be more successful this year.

 

Meanwhile, representative of the Bank of Nova Scotia Margaret Doctrove says the bank which has been sponsoring Showdown Mas Camp for over five years is indeed privilege to sponsor the event for yet another year while the General Manager of Bulls Eye Pharmacy and calypsonian Val ‘Young Bull’ Cuffy said that Bulls Eye Pharmacy is not just sponsoring Mas Camp but many other carnival events and calypsonians as well.

 

The controversial King Dice who has been absent from the scene for the past two years was also present at the official launching ceremony of Showdown Mas Camp, pledging his committment to his many fans.
