Six DSC students receive DAAS/De Filipps Scholarships

The Dominica Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS) in collaboration with the De Fillips scholarship scheme, is again lending their support to students of the Dominica State College, by presenting six scholarships to the institution at a short ceremony on February 25th, 2011.

President of DAAS, Dr Clayton Shillingford says the academy’s contribution to the Dominica State College, over the past 10 years, spans from the donation of books for the school’s library to various public lectures for students pursuing degrees in the field of arts and sciences.

Four first year students and two second year students are being awarded scholarships this year.

DSC bursar, Miss Catherine Abraham, who received the cheque on behalf of the college, says the $6,600 will go towards the cost of the students tuition fees.

She called on other corporate entities to do likewise, and invest in the students.

The recipients are first year students, Eddian Samuel and Dahryn Auguiste, who are both pursuing majors in biology and chemistry along with Nellie Jules who is majoring in biology and literature and Dwight De Gonzague who is pursuing an agriculture major.

Two second year students, Melissa Jno Lewis pursuing a major in biology and Shawn Francis pursuing a major in agriculture were also awarded scholarships.
