Six teams to be featured in the Dominica vs. Antigua Rounders tournament

Six teams will be featured this weekend when the Mahaut Sports and Domino Club host its first regional Rounders tournament.

The tournament came just months after rounders coach, Mr Roger Francis organized a number of national games involving several mixed Rounders teams on the island.

Mr Francis says the games, which will be held at the Teza Playing Field in Mahaut on Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th, promises to be exciting.

‘We have six team that will be participating in the tournament; three from Dominica and three from Antigua. From Dominica, we have the 20/20 Champions; ACS South Defenders, an All Star team; which consists of top players from mixed teams on the island and the all-male team, Destroyers from Grandbay.’

‘From Antigua, we have the Vision, Superstars and an all-male team; Nature Boys’, said Francis.

Mr Francis says that although Dominica pioneered in introducing the game to the Caribbean, it is rather sad that other countries have led the way in sustaining the excitement in the game.

He is hoping that this tournament will serve as motivation for Dominica’s rounders team to develop further interest in the game, while at the same time, building collaboration between the two countries.

Mr Francis is encouraging the Dominican public to support the event.

Saturday will feature three games; ACS South Defenders versus Super Stars of Antigua, Destroyers versus Nature Boys and Kubuli Krams All Stars versus Vision of Antigua.

Sunday will feature Kubuli super stars of Mahaut versus Antigua mixed team followed by the 3rd place match with the loser in game one and two.

The finals, which will feature the winner of games one and two, will begin at 4pm.
