St. Lucia Wins OECS Reading Competition Finals

Winner of the OECS reading competition, Kharyce Moonie

Ms. Kharyce Moonie of St. Lucia is the winner of the 4th Courts OECS Reading Competition.

The event took place at the Arawak House of Culture on November 21st, 2012.

This year marks the 47th year that the world recognizes International Literacy Day and it seeks to remind us of the importance of literacy.

MRs. Lorraine Sionie, Courts OECS Director of Marketing, says 776 million adults lack minimum literacy skills.

The OECS Reading Competition is the brainchild of the Dominica Broadcasting Station.

Mr. Brian Meade, General Manager of DBS Radio, says it is the brain child of Mr. Felix Henderson, the Production Manager at DBS Radio.

Honourable Petter St. Jean, Minister for Education congratulated the 6 participants for coming thus far.

He says it takes a tremendous amount of work to prepare for events such as these, and commends them for their discipline.

Dominica, represented by Aiden Bruney placed second and St. Kitts and Nevis came third.

The other competitors were from Antigua, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
