St Martin’s Primary School Hosts Father-Daughter Day
The students of the St. Martin Primary School were all excited on Thursday May 2nd, as the school organized a Father, Figure-Daughter Day.
Teacher of the St. Martin Primary School, Ms. Ann Cockrane who is also a member of the Status of Women Committee, the women’s arm of the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT), said they realize men are very important in the upbringing of their children.
Ms. Brinette Moreau, Principal of the St. Martin Primary School stated, the fathers responded tremendously to the occasion as they came in large numbers as a sign of showing they are very much involved in the lives of their daughters.
Ms. Moreau noted one of the things she realized from this event was that, some of the children do not have fathers or father figures in their homes, so they invited other male figures from the community.
Honorable Charles Savarin, Dr. Jeffrey Blaize and Honorable Petter St. Jean, were among the father figures, who had discussions with the students, reassuring them to consider the leaders in their various communities as father figures, in the absence of their own fathers.
She was impressed with the fathers, who also hosted the children’s morning assembly before going to the classrooms to explain to the children various aspects of their profession said Ms. Moreau.
“I am hoping that through this activity, fathers will realize they must play a more active role in the lives of their children,” she said.
