Stiffer Punishments Needed to Deter Criminals

footage (5)Minister of National Security, Labour and Immigration, Honourable Charles Savarin, is of the view that one way of dealing with crime in Dominica, is by issuing harsher punishments to criminals through the judicial system.

Many persons, he said, are taking huge risks to engage in criminal activities, therefore, major restrictions need to be put in place at the Courts.

The Magistrates and Judges need to administer sentences that reflect the value of the society, he added.

“Stricter punishments are a must!”

Mr. Savarin said, the Courts need to be a partner of the State in taking control of crime in this country.

He believes a lot of crimes that are committed, have a direct impact on society and the economy of any country, so ensuring it is under control is vital – though one crime committed is too many, especially for Dominica.
