Table tennis championship opening ceremony
Students from various schools island wide, converged at the st. Gerard’s hall on Tuesday February 7th, for the official opening of the 2012 secondary schools, table tennis championships.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, sports coordinator, Mr. Trevor shillingford says, this competition provides students with the opportunity, to showcase their talent in the sport.
The sports coordinator says, championships like these are organized to identify talent, which can be worked on and prepare for regional and international competitions.
This year’s competition will be divided into three categories, which are; under 14, under 16 and under 20, and open boys and open girls singles.
Parliamentary representative of the Roseau constituency, Honorable Norris Prevost commended all of the participating schools, for their efforts to compete in this championship.
He went on to say the schools, that the students should make use of who have the sporting facilities they have available since there are some who are not fortunate as they are.
The participating schools are the north east comprehensive school, Portsmouth secondary school, the Dominica state college, Wesley high school, the Dominica grammar school, Pierre Charles secondary school, the convent high school and the st. Mary’s academy.
The competition was organized by the sports division, within the ministry culture youth and sports, which is held at an annual basis.
