‘Tax payment is critical to the country’s economy’ – Comptroller of Inland Revenue Division
The Comptroller of Inland Revenue, Mr. Irving Williams has underscored the importance of tax payments to the Inland Revenue Division, as mandated by the laws and constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Mr Williams made this declaration while addressing a thanksgiving ceremony marking the opening of the 2011 tax awareness week.
According to him, revenue generated from taxes contributes meaningfully towards the country’s development and so it is imperative that taxpayers comply by paying their taxes on time.
This year’s tax awareness week is being held under the theme; ‘voluntary tax compliance through registration, record keeping and filing returns.
Mrs Williams says that it is very important that taxpayers understand the meaning of compliance.
The main purpose of this year’s week of activities is to further educate taxpayers and the general public on the various requirements they must meet in keeping with the laws administered by the Comptroller of Inland Revenue.
Mr Williams is advising taxpayers who are default in their tax payments to contact the Inland Revenue Division immediately.
The deadline to file taxes for 2010 is March 31st, 2011.
A number of employees in the Inland Revenue Division were also awarded at the ceremony.
