‘The authorities need to deal with the drug suppliers and traffickers’ says Austrie

Parliamentary representative for the Constituency, Honorable Reginald Austrie has said that in order to deal with the upsurge in drug abuse on the island, the authorities need to not only deal with drug users, but more so, the suppliers and traffickers.

Austrie made this comment while addressing the second of a series of public forums organized by the Church of God of Prophecy, held in Clifton last week.

The minister says the use and abuse of drugs impacts, not only on the communities but also on government’s economic, finance and human resources.

He says his government will continue to partner with law enforcement agencies to curb the level of crime on the island, which again surfaces as a result of drug-related incidents.

Welfare officer, Mr Oliver Wallace noted that parents need to maintain good communication with their children, educating them on the dangers of getting involved in drugs.

Mr Wallace also pointed out the differences between discipline and punishment, a factor; he believes most parents fail to understand.
