The Bath Estate Community celebrates Fete La Coudre

Parliamentary representative for the Roseau South Constituency, Honorable Ambrose George has called on residents in the Bath Estate community to support the Bath Estate Development Committee as activities marking the village feast; Fete La Coudre, gets underway.

The activities began with an Ecumenical Service at the Bath Estate playing field on Sunday, July 4th. The activities are held under the theme ‘Reflection, Reunion, Rebirth’.

“We have had several developments in the community of Bath Estate. We have the UWI Center; we have the section of the State College, the Roseau Primary School, the Community Center and the Football House. In recent times we have had the Calypso House, the main highway running through Bath Estate, the road that leads from the Stadium into Bath Estate and the road along the Alliance Francaise to UWI” said George.

Honorable Rayburn Blackmoore who represented the Prime Minister at Sunday’s Service, commended the committee for putting together a well-organized calendar of events. He said that any feast held in Dominica should not only be about fete, but should always have true significance.

“I think what is happening here today demonstrates to others communities that the celebration of a feast should not just be about fete, but should have true significance. A feast has to symbolize something, you need to know what the feast stands for and I think we can do that. We can go a long way in promoting our talent if we do that”, said Blackmoore.

At Sunday’s ceremony, a number of persons were recognized for their contribution to the development of the Bath Estate community. Persons receiving honors included Mrs Bernadine Dinard Williams, Mr Hayford Lafond, Ms Sharmaine Brumant, Mr Aaron Pacquette, Mr Alvin Bernard and the Bath Estate Football Club.

Activities marking Fete La Coudre includes history night on July 5th, a youth panel discussion on July 6th, Health morning activity and games day on July 7th, Dinner and poetry night on July 8th, culture and calypso night on July 9th and a domino competition on July 10th.

The activities will culminate with a grand fair, a Miss Fete La Coudre Fashion Show and a band splash featuring the WCK Band, Original Serenade and a Jamaican artist on July 11th, 2010.
