The Dominica Scouts Movement observe the 154th birthday of the Scouts Founder
On February 22nd, 2011, the Dominica Scouts Association joined the rest of world in observing the 154th birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the English soldier who founded scouting.
Chief Scouts Commissioner of the Dominica Scouts Association, Mr Bonti Liverpool says the movement which was founded in 1907, is the largest movement of young people in the world comprising 28 million scouts in 216 countries and territories.
Today’s observance is known by the scouts as ‘founders day’ while it is known in guiding as ‘thinking day’.
A special ceremony was held at the Grandbay Primary School to observe founders day in Dominica.
Mr Liverpool reiterated the need for members to hold fast to the legacy of the scouts founder, putting service to god and country first.
The movement was brought in Dominica in 1929 by J.O Aird and others, and has proved to be a nurturing ground for leadership and character training throughout the length and breadth of the island.
