The first phase of the FIFA goal 2 project to be completed by mid September
The first phase of the FIFA goal two project, currently under construction in Stockfarm is expected to be completed by September 15th, 2010.
This confirmation came from the president of the Dominica Football Association (DFA), Mr Patrick John. Mr John said that so far they have received approximately $400,000.00 from FIFA for the project, which may soon be extended to $500,000.00.
“We are hoping to finish the first phase by the middle of September. While the delay is not our fault, we are going to be working tirelessly to finish the project,” said John.
The DFA president said that a recent change in the financing process may have been the cause of delays in the project. He said that DFA received another disbursement last week and that work is continuing on the project, in keeping with the set deadline.
According to him, “before, the contractor would send his claim to FIFA who would then send the money directly to the contractor. The procedure has since changed; the contractor must give me the claim, I will approve it and send it to FIFA. This was done, but there was a major delay in receiving the funds due to the 2010 World Cup in Africa. We received the monies last week so that work can continue.”
The facility which is expected to be island’s first football mini stadium will be funded in part by FIFA and the government of Dominica.
Upon completion the new facility will accommodate a standard size playing field with dormitories and seating for approximately 2,000 spectators
