The International Finance Corporation begin the business registration process in Dominica

The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica in collaboration with the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, with support from the Canadian International Development Agency, is making progress towards simplifying the registration of businesses and companies to formally operate in Dominica.

The system proposed by the IFC, which is being considered by the government, is aimed at creating a single window whereby citizens can register as a company, tax payer and employer at the same time.

While the implementation is advancing following a recent proposal for reform, the reform management unit held a consultation on February 7th, 2011, at the Fort Young Hotel, which is geared at starting the registration process.

At the consultation, key stakeholders who conducts business in Dominica reviewed the reform proposal which was prepared by the IFC, and is later expected to be signed by the government.

Throughout the consultation, participants were also introduced to the software which is being prepared for the companies registry.

Regional partners in the initiative include the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

Apart from Dominica, similar programs are also being implemented in Grenada, St Lucia and St Kitts.
