The Many Gifts To Dominica Given By The Elias Nassief Foundation
Twenty-eight organizations benefitted from donations totaling sixty five thousand five hundred dollars ($65, 500), through the kind contributions of the Elias Nassief Foundation.
The presentations to the various organizations were made on Wednesday December 15th at the Fort Young Hotel.
This year boasts the 15th Annual Presentation with the selected institutions for this year including Day Care Centers, Care For The Elderly, Health and Education, Spiritual Institutions, Centenarians and a special contribution to Retired Employees.
The Secretary of the Elias Nassief Foundation, Nathalie Sampson says the foundation is committed to the annual Christmas donations, focusing primarily on the young, elderly and sick.
Abilities Unlimited was singled out as the organization which received a small business award totaling five thousand dollars ($5, 000).
This business provides the opportunity where the visually and physically impaired as well as slow workers are able to design local craft including handmade baskets, hats and table mats to name a few and can be found at hotels, business places and homes throughout the country.
The Manager of Abilities Unlimited, Annie Anthony says the organization does not only contribute to Dominica’s traditional craft but sustains the livelihood of the physically and mentally challenged employees.
She welcomes the continued support from Government and the people of Dominica.
Adding some colour to the ceremony was the presentation of Dominica’s renowned Historian Dr. Lennox Honychurch.
He gave an address on the topic: ‘The Many Gifts To Dominica Given By Edward Sheriff Dawbiney’.
His presentation showed the great contributions made to the society on various levels, including Religion, Education and the Elderly which were mirrored by the Elias Nassief Foundation.
