The Ministry of Agriculture formulates a task force to mitigate the high level of Perennial Larceny
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture Mr. Samuel Carrette said that the Ministry has formulated a task force to mitigate and ultimately eradicate the high level of Perennial Larceny in Dominica. According to Mr. Carrette, the constant theft of agricultural produce is not only affecting Dominica, but the entire Caribbean.
Mr. Carrette stated that Government is currently seeking to better manage the export of agricultural commodities, in order to obtain the necessary data as it relates to agricultural exports. He said that they have already begun the process by constructing Inland and Distribution Centers as well as Packing Houses in various parts of the island, where all agricultural commodities will receive certification before leaving the island.
In addition to the measures announced by the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of Agriculture, Honourable Matthew Walter said that they are also seeking to implement the ‘Green Police,’ an initiative recently established in St. Lucia, in an effort to curb Perennial Larceny.
