The Ministry of Education calls on parents to play their part in promoting good oral hygiene
The Ministry of Education has said that while they are receiving tremendous support from Colgate Palmolive in promoting good oral hygiene in Dominica, the role of the parents is key in the educational process.
This statement was made by Senior Education Officer Mrs Windith Henderson at the Official Launching Ceremony of oral health month, being observed in October.
Colgate Palmolive presented a cheque of $2,000 to the Ministry of Education as well as 3,000 dental kits for distribution to various preschoolers on the island.
Mrs Henderson said that while focus should be placed on the regular brushing of teeth and flushing, parents should also monitor the diets of their children. According to her, citizens should eat more local foods and less processed foods in keeping with the theme chosen for the month, ‘healthy mouths for healthy lives’.
Educational radio programs and free dental check-ups at dental clinics around the island are some of the planned activities marking oral health month.
